Appeals in state and federal courts
As an appellate lawyer based in Portland, Oregon, I practice in state and federal courts across the country. I handle a variety of appeals. Some appeals involve issues important only to the litigants, while other appeals raise issues of broad public concern, testing the social questions of the day against the law, creating legal and political tension.
A common thread connecting an otherwise disparate caseload is that my clients’ appeals often have widespread impact, and their needs often require extraordinary solutions. Some of the appeals I have litigated as an appellate lawyer are discussed under the Appeals section of this website. I enjoy serving as an appellate lawyer because it affords the opportunity to shape the law at the state and federal levels, occasionally having a significant impact on our lives.
Defending physicians, pharmacists and nurses
As a licensure lawyer, I also defend licensed health care professionals, including:
- physicians
- pharmacists and
- nurses
in medical licensing and DEA Registration matters before the Oregon Medical Board, the Oregon Board of Pharmacy, the Oregon State Board of Nursing, and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). This work is discussed under the Medical Licenses and DEA Registrations section of this website.
Legislative and political solutions
When litigation is inadequate, I have designed and implemented successful legislative and political solutions, resulting in significant legal and political change. This part of my practice is discussed under the Legislative Drafting and Political Work section of this website.
